Edmonton Family Photography: A Fall Family Session at Stone Barn Garden in Leduc

Family

There’s something so special about fall Edmonton family photography sessions. The golden light, colourful leaves, and cooler air create a beautiful setting for capturing your family just as you are. And when you add three fun- oving kids who aren’t afraid to run around, laugh, and play, you get the kind of photos that make my heart so happy.

I recently had the joy of photographing this sweet family of five at Stone Barn Garden in Leduc, Alberta. Between the girls tossing leaves into the air, exploring the gardens, and sharing sweet moments with their parents, this session was full of everything I love about family photography.

Hi! I’m Jessica, a maternity, birth, and family photographer based in Beaumont, serving Edmonton and the surrounding area. I’m also a mama, a deep feeler, and someone who truly believes these moments matter more than we realize while we’re living them.

If you’re looking for an Edmonton family photographer who captures your family in a way that feels honest, emotional, and completely you, I’d love to connect. I’m here to help make your session feel easy, relaxed, and meaningful.

A Beautiful Fall Family Photography Session in Leduc, Alberta

Fall in Alberta never seems to last quite long enough, does it? One minute the trees are turning gold, and the next we’re pulling out our winter coats. That’s part of what makes this season such a lovely time to slow down and capture a few memories.

For this session, we spent the evening exploring Stone Barn Garden in Leduc. The girls were full of energy, and I loved watching their personalities come through as we moved around the gardens together.

There were moments when everyone gathered close for a family portrait and others when the girls were off having their own little adventures. At one point, they were throwing handfuls of fallen leaves into the air, laughing as the leaves floated back down around them.

Those are the moments I love to photograph. Nothing forced or overly planned. Just kids being kids, parents enjoying their little ones, and a family spending time together.

Why Stone Barn Garden Was the Perfect Backdrop for This Family of Five

One of my favourite things about Stone Barn Garden in Leduc is how much variety you can find in one location. The rustic wooden structures, stone walls, garden paths, and beautiful greenery all bring something different to a session. In the fall, the changing leaves add another layer of warmth.

We captured family portraits near the wooden barn doors, surrounded by colourful flowers, before wandering through the gardens for more photos. The space also gave the kids room to move. Instead of asking them to stay in one spot, we could let them explore and enjoy being outside.

Capturing the Little Moments That Make Family Photos So Special

As a mom, I know how quickly our kids change. The way they laugh, the things they find funny, and even how they interact with their siblings can look so different from one year to the next. That’s why I always make room for the little moments during my sessions.

With these three sisters, there was no shortage of them. I loved watching them run through the grass while their parents shared a kiss in the background. The girls were completely caught up in their own fun, and it made for one of my favourite images from the evening.

These might not be the photos you picture when you first think about family portraits, but they’re often the ones that bring back the biggest feelings later. Because one day, these little girls will be older. They might not remember every detail of this evening, but they’ll be able to look back and see exactly who they were in this stage of their lives.

And I think that’s pretty special.

How the Fall Colours Added Warmth to This Edmonton Family Photography Session

There’s a reason I love photographing families outdoors in the fall. Between the beautiful colours and golden evening light, everything feels a little softer and warmer.

During this session, the sunlight filtered through the trees, giving the photos a lovely glow. The yellow leaves, green gardens, and rustic wood also worked beautifully with the family’s outfits.

I loved how they chose soft, earthy colours that complemented one another without being too matchy. The girls wore floral dresses, cream pants, and muted greens. Their parents kept things relaxed with denim, green, and a cozy white cardigan.

Everything felt comfortable and natural, which suited this session perfectly. Sometimes, a beautiful location, a little golden light, and the people you love most are all you need for meaningful family photos.

A Mix of Candid Moments and Classic Family Portraits

When families book a session with me, I know they often want a little bit of everything. The beautiful portrait of everyone smiling at the camera, but also the photos that truly feel like their family. The silly faces, the hugs, and the moments of laughter.

That’s why I love mixing gently guided portraits with candid moments. For this family, we captured all five of them together in front of the rustic barn doors, leaning against a wooden fence, and walking through the garden.

In between, I gave the girls room to play and be themselves. I never want your family session to feel like an hour of standing still and smiling. I’ll guide you when needed, but there’s always room for movement, laughter, and a little chaos.

Because that’s family life, isn’t it?

If you love relaxed photos that capture your family’s everyday connection, I’ve also shared tips for planning the perfect in-home family photography session.

Why I Love Photographing Families in Edmonton and the Surrounding Areas

One of the things I love most about being an Edmonton family photographer is meeting families in different seasons of life. From welcoming a first baby to chasing busy toddlers or watching older children grow into their personalities, every stage brings something worth remembering.

As a mom, I know how quickly the days pass between school drop-offs, meals, and bedtime routines. Before you know it, your kids have grown, and those everyday moments have become memories. That’s why family photography means so much to me.

I want you to have photos that capture more than what your children looked like. I want you to remember how they laughed together, reached for your hand, or curled up beside you.

Whether we’re taking photos in Edmonton, Beaumont, Leduc, or somewhere nearby, my approach stays the same. I want your family to feel comfortable, connected, and free to be yourselves.

Planning Your Own Edmonton Family Photography Session

If you’ve been thinking about booking family photos, you don’t have to wait for everything to feel perfect. Your kids don’t need to be a certain age, your outfits don’t need to be perfect, and life doesn’t need to slow down. Come exactly as you are!

When planning your Edmonton family photography session, we’ll choose a setting that feels right for your family, whether that’s a beautiful garden like Stone Barn Garden, a quiet field at sunset, or your own home.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Choose a relaxed location. Somewhere your kids can move and explore.
  • Wear what feels comfortable. Soft colours and outfits that feel like you photograph beautifully.
  • Let your kids be themselves. Perfect smiles aren’t necessary!
  • Focus on being together. I’ll gently guide you so you don’t have to worry about posing.
  • Enjoy the experience. It’s about making memories, not just taking photos.

My hope is that you leave feeling like you’ve spent some meaningful time together, with beautiful photos to remember it by.

From My Heart to Yours

Looking back at this fall family session, I’m reminded of why I love this work so much. Beyond the beautiful autumn colours and golden light, it was the laughter between these three sisters, the sweet moments between their parents, and the joy of simply being together.

These are the memories I want families to hold onto. The years pass quickly, little hands grow bigger, and everyday moments become the ones we wish we could experience again. That’s what Edmonton family photography means to me. Capturing honest, meaningful images that help you remember this chapter of your family’s story, exactly as it is.

If this kind of storytelling speaks to you, I’d be honoured to be part of it. Whether you’re ready to book, want to learn more about me, or are exploring your options, I’d love to connect. Come say hi on Instagram too!

I’d love to document this stage of your family’s life, from the quiet moments to all the beautiful chaos in between.
