When you start searching for an Edmonton photographer, it’s easy to fall in love with beautiful images. Soft light, smiling faces, perfectly captured moments. But choosing the right person is about so much more than how the photos look. It’s about how you feel while they’re being taken and long after.
In this post, I want to gently walk you through what truly matters when choosing a photographer for your family. The kind of things you might not realize right away, but that make all the difference in how your photos turn out and how the experience feels.
Hi! I’m Jessica, a maternity, birth, and family photographer based in Beaumont, serving Edmonton and the surrounding area. I’m also a mama, a deep feeler, and someone who truly believes these moments matter more than we realize while we’re living them.
If you’re looking for an Edmonton photographer who captures your family in a way that feels honest, emotional, and completely you, I’d love to connect. From the very beginning through every step, I’m here to make this feel easy, calm, and meaningful.

Why It’s About More Than Just Pretty Photos
Beautiful photos are everywhere. But the ones that stay with you, the ones that bring you right back into a moment, are something deeper.
It’s the way your child reaches for you without thinking.
The way your partner looks at you when you’re not paying attention.
The quiet, in between moments that can’t be recreated.
Those are the images that matter most. And they come from being seen, not staged.
If that’s what you’re drawn to, photos that feel like something, not just look like something, I’ve shared more about how to create that kind of experience at home. Read the blog here.
What It Feels Like To Work With An Edmonton Photographer Who Truly Cares
There’s a difference between someone who takes photos of families and someone who genuinely loves them. When you’re with the right photographer, you feel it right away. You’re not rushed. Your kids aren’t too loud or too shy. Nothing needs to be perfect.
There’s a sense of calm.
A feeling of safety.
And space to just be yourselves.
And when that happens, everything softens. Real moments start to unfold without effort.

Why Being A Mom Changes Everything
Becoming a mother changed the way I see everything, especially the moments that might seem small at the time.
I still remember holding my girls for the first time. How everything paused for just a second before life started moving so quickly. Sleepless nights turned into first steps, and before I knew it, they were running ahead of me, growing faster than I ever expected..
That’s why I do this. Because I know what it feels like to want to hold onto a moment just a little longer. I do this for you, because these moments of motherhood, the quiet ones, the chaotic ones, the ones that pass by in a blur, matter more than we realize while we’re in them.
I’m deeply passionate about documenting this season of life, not just how it looks, but how it feels. The connection, the tenderness, the moments that slip past so quickly.
As a mom, I don’t expect your children to sit still or perform. I understand the energy, the emotions, and the need for patience and softness. I meet them exactly where they are, and that’s where the magic happens.
If you’re pregnant and starting to think about who you want by your side during birth, I’ve shared more about building a supportive birth team in this blog. Read it here.
The Difference Between Posing And Being Gently Guided
You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to practice or prepare in that way.
Instead, you’re gently guided into connection. A hand on your child’s back. A quiet cuddle. A moment that unfolds naturally, without you having to force anything.
Your photos should feel like memories, not something you had to perform for.

Why The In Between Moments Matter Most
The images families come back to again and again are rarely the perfectly posed ones.
They’re the ones where something real is happening.
Your toddler clinging to your leg.
You brushing hair out of your child’s face.
A burst of laughter that no one planned.
These are the moments that hold your story. The ones that feel like your life, exactly as it is.
If you’ve been thinking about booking a session and aren’t sure where it should take place, I’ve shared 10 of my favourite locations to help guide you. Read the blog here.
Creating Space For Every Personality In Your Family
Every family is different, and that’s what makes it beautiful.
Some kids are quiet and observant.
Others are loud and full of energy.
Some need time to warm up.
All of it is welcome.
You don’t need to fit into a certain version of what a family “should” look like. The goal is to create a space where everyone feels comfortable enough to be themselves.
Because that’s where the most meaningful moments live.

How To Know You’ve Found The Right Edmonton Photographer
You’ll feel it.
It’s in the way you exhale when you read their words.
The way their images feel familiar instead of intimidating.
The sense that you don’t have to be anyone other than yourself.
Choosing someone to document your family is personal. It’s about trust, connection, and feeling understood.
If you’ve just welcomed your baby and want to remember those quiet, fleeting first hours, I’ve shared what a fresh 48 session can look like. Read the blog here.
A Little Bit About Me, Your Edmonton Photographer
My favorite place to be is home. Barefoot in the garden, hands in the soil, surrounded by my people, my pets, and more houseplants than I probably need.
I’m someone who feels things deeply. I’m emotional, intuitive, and the kind of person who will tear up right alongside you when something feels meaningful. I don’t take that lightly. Being invited into your family’s space, even for a short time, is something I hold with so much care.
I’m drawn to quiet mornings, slow living, and the way life moves through different seasons. I notice the way people love each other, the way connection shows up in the smallest gestures, and I carry that awareness into every session.
I’ve loved photography for as long as I can remember, but everything shifted when I became a mom. Capturing my own children, their tiny movements, their personalities unfolding, and how quickly everything changed, showed me just how powerful a single photo can be.
In 2020, I followed that feeling and started my business. Since then, I’ve been documenting motherhood and family life in a way that feels honest, emotional, and deeply human.
This work isn’t just something I do. It’s something I care about with my whole heart.

From My Heart To Yours
Choosing an Edmonton photographer is such a meaningful decision. Of course the images matter, you want photographs that are beautiful, timeless, and something you’ll treasure for years to come. But just as important is the way your photographer creates your images and how you feel throughout the experience.
The most meaningful images come from connection. From slowing down, being present with your people, and allowing your family to simply be as you are. You don’t need everything to be perfect. Your kids don’t need to behave a certain way. You just need space to show up as yourselves, and someone who will see that with care and intention.
If this kind of storytelling speaks to you, I would be honoured to be part of it. Whether you’re ready to choose your photographer, want to learn more about me or are simply exploring your options, send me a message. I’d love to connect. And come say hi on Instagram too!
It would mean so much to document this chapter of your life, just as it is, so you can hold onto it for years to come.
